Anastasiia Grigoriadi’s beeswax candles, which caught the eye of many at the Estonian Academy of Arts Christmas market are now also available in the museum shop.

The design of several candles is inspired by ETDM’s collections, for example, one candle features the well-known dog shape from the popular children’s spoon “Dog” (1984) by designer Leida IIo. All candles are handmade from beeswax, and although Anastasiia has been making candles for about a year, the story of the candle brand Swetlitsa goes back to her childhood.

The design of several candles is inspired by ETDM’s collections, for example, one candle features the well-known dog shape from the popular children’s spoon “Dog” (1984) by designer Leida IIo. All candles are handmade from beeswax, and although Anastasiia has been making candles for about a year alongside her studies, the story of the candle brand Swetlitsa goes back to her childhood.

“My grandfather was a beekeeper. To be more precise, he was a pilot and decided to keep bees just in retirement. I really like that both are connected to flights: bees fly to produce honey and planes fly to carry people. Smells of honey, wax, and bee bread are smells of my childhood and happy times in my grandparents’ village and summer. Maybe that is why I don’t want to use soy for making candles. Natural wax and its smell are a big part of candles that makes me happy. These candles speak about bees, beekeeping and wax, which is a product of bees and humans’ coexistence,” says Anastasiia Grigoriadi.

The pice of the candles is 2-30 euros and the profit goes to helping people affected by the Russian invasion. The museum shop hosts the Swetlitsa pop-up until spring.
