Rya workshop with Finnish fashion designer Tuula Pöyhönen

28.04 & 13.05

Join us for a fantastic shaggy rya style ragamuf weaving workshop with Finnish fashion and concept designer Tuula Pöyhönen.

A ragamuf is a chair cover that fits different shaped chairs giving them a new life. The materials are left-overs from the textile industry, and so it is a circular economy product. The manufacturing method is easy and does not require tools; therefore, it can be made by anybody. Earlier makers have been refugees or women of low economic means allowing them to earn their own money. The ragamuf comes from a culture where women have woven rugs at home using old textiles. The first ragamuf prototype was made in Morocco, in the homeland of the boucherouites. Tuula Pöyhönen invented the stretchy rug to cover old sofas.

Tuula Pöyhönen is a Finnish fashion and concept designer. She has specialized in new concept development with an in-depth understanding of the manufacturing processes in the textile and clothing industry. Pöyhönen enjoys the challenge of merging cutting edge design, brave branding and commercial reality.

This workshop is ideal for beginners, as no prior weaving experience is needed. All the tools and materials are included in the price.
