Textile collection
The textile collection includes almost 1,250 pieces, representing the works of more than 100 textile artists. The collection is largely made up of wall and floor carpets and fabrics made according to various techniques, in addition to tablecloths, blankets, knitted fabrics and textile murals. The collection of printed fabrics compiled between the 1960s and 1980s is remarkably large. For a long time, the museum’s oldest examples dated back to the post-war years. In recent decades, thanks to carpets woven on the basis of preserved designs and textiles donated from private collections, there are also examples from the first decades of the 20th century. The systematic collection of Estonian applied art that began in the 1950s and artists actively exhibiting led to the gradual growth of the Textile Collection, which continues to this day. In addition to textile art classics from the previous century, the collection represents a wide and constantly expanding selection of works by contemporary textile artists.
