Experimental chair by Maile Grünberg from 1972 on display

Exhibition

This marigold blossom-inspired orange chair was designed for the second edition of the experimental exhibition series Ruum ja Vorm (Space and Form). The sculptural blossom has been enlarged to a giant form enabling it to function as a regular chair despite the exhibition’s aim to present merely experiments. The body of the chair is assembled of cut cell foam sheets and painted over. It represents the wave of experimenting in Estonian design that had begun in the late 1960s and is one of the most striking examples of the period’s aspirations.

The chair was donated to the museum in 2019 and the conservation process was completed in the summer of 2022.

The chair is exhibited in the project area of the permanent exhibition “Introduction to Estonian Design”.
