Ellen Hansen. Tapestry “Youth Party”. 1958. wool, woven.
An example of pictorial tapestry from the 1950s or rather of the meaning and of the changed language upon designing tapestry. On the example of fine art, tapestry turned more and more into a decorative and well-readable drawing. Transformation of the tapestry of the 1950s into a placard-like messenger carrying slogans was one of the options to avoid accusations of formalism, the usage of folk art themes supported walking along with the then appropriate course. A detail of importance is also the framing of the knitted picture that effectively enabled to make use of the application of national ornament.
