Jüri Kermik. Chair “Äksi”. 2002- .
The Äksi chair, designed by Jüri Kermik, is merely one version of a collection whereby the author is interpreting the historical seat in a contemporary key. The type and general construction of the seat that the author has relied upon while creating his work, have been exploited in here and in vicinity throughout the 19th-20th centuries. As one of the few, Kermik has made efforts to build a bridge between the past and the presence in his Äksi chair design, and to rummage the local furniture heritage. It is not merely an item serving its functional purpose– it has been provided with a meaningful content as well.
